General Information about Motor Gliding in Nepal
Visitors to Pokhara in Nepal can enjoy a bird's-eye-view of its splendid Himalayan scenery and experience the thrill of flying in a micro-light aircraft. The exciting sport of motor gliding is now available in Pokhara to complement its natural beauty.

At present, Avia Club Nepal. (Established in 1996) operates two delta - wing power gliders from the lakeside city, delighting adventurers with stunning views of Phewa Lake and the Annapurna range. Especially designed to suit rugged terrains, the ultra-light aircraft weighs 170 kg and needs only a 100-ft long runway for take-off and landing. With an operational speed ranging between 50 and 130 km per hour, it can fly up to 300 km at a stretch and reach a height of 5,000 m. The delta wing aircraft's high aerodynamic qualities allow it to perform long flights even with the engine turned off. Uniquely designed and with a parachute, the aircraft can land safely even in emergency situations. Flights are conducted by experienced pilots.

Place of Operation
Since its inception in 1996, we have been offering sightseeing tours aboard the ultra-light aircraft (power-glider) in the Pokhara Valley. the scenic lake valley and proximity to the mountains makes it an ideal place for such an adventure.

We have three outlets for smooth running of the operation. One sales office and hanger is based inside the premises of airport in Pokhara whereas our City Office is situated close by the airport. Our Kathmandu office provides support to travelers arriving at the international airport.

Getting There
There are daily flights between Pokhara and Kathmandu. For Himalayan views sit on the right-hand side if you're heading to Pokhara and the left if heading to Kathmandu. The bus trip between the two towns takes about six hours.

Phewa Tal, or Phewa Lake, is the focal point of Pokhara and the second-largest lake in Nepal. The best way to enjoy the lake is to get out on it. The shoreline in the Lakeside neighborhood in Pokhara is heavily developed, but in contrast the steep southwestern shore is beautifully forested.

The Regular Featured Flights
Avia Club Nepal operates flights from the Pokhara airport beginning September through June. The flights take place from sunrise to 11 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to sunset every day during these months. Three different routes are taken:

Fly for Fun
The flight duration is 15 minutes. The aircraft flies over the Pokhara city, Phewa Lake, Sarangkot hill at the speed of 50 km/hour to 90 km/hr.

The maximum altitude attained is 5,000 feet. This flight is designed for the curious who just wants to have a little fun.

Touch the Fish Tail
Not quite, but still this flight takes as close to the Fish Tail as is possible without compromising the safety. The flight duration is 30 minutes. The speed is 90 km/hr.

Mountain Range Sky Trek
Flight duration is One hr. This flight covers the whole of the Annapurna range at the speed of 90 km/hr to 130 km/hr. The altitude attained is 12, 000 ft, high above the clouds. This flight is intended for those who like to live life on the fast track, and love a little adrenaline rush now and then.

Before Flight
You will be briefed about the flight path (route) before you take off, so you can prepare for pictures and point of interest ahead of time. All three of our aircraft can fly close to each other so that you can enjoy your flight with your family friends and also take pictures of each other. You can even play hide and seek in the air or go for roller coaster ride if you wish! All our passengers receive personalized service.

The Craft and Safety
Currently there are three fleets on our account. Two of which are Biman Model and one is cruise. These aircrafts are manufactured in Russia and are powered by Rotax 582 engines.

The operational speed ranges from 50 km/h to 130 km/h. These are two-seater planes, which carries one pilot and one passenger in every flight.

These aircraft can fly for four hours and reach the height of 5000 meter flying 300 km at a stretch. Their high aerodynamic qualities allow this delta wing aircraft to perform long flights with engine turned off. Their unique design includes a ballistic parachute system, which enables the aircraft to land safely during emergencies.

Our operations are controlled by Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, which checks pilots’ proficiency & the condition of the aircraft.

Our insurance policy conforms to the rules for the Passenger, Aircraft, Pilot and the third parties, which means we are insured just as other domestic flights.

These ultra light aircrafts are designed to safely carry passengers while providing openings on both sides allow viewing freedom. The end result is that you feel as if you are flying like a bird. Enjoy the fresh air on your face, scenes of mighty Annapurna range just right in front of you.
